[New Feature] Data export & custom user avatars

Pre-sales Q&A

We have two (2) new exciting features to share with you all...

    1. Data Export

With Europe's GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) quickly approaching (May 2018), we're looking at ways to make Champ fully GDPR compliant. After all, Champ is a forum app and data retention is, at its very core, a key feature. We'll have more news on this in April.

Again, if you're not familiar with GDPR, here's a resource for you: https://help.shopify.com/manual/your-account/GDPR

For now, you can export data from Champ. This is useful, say, if you ever want to migrate off of Champ (sad face). To learn more about this functionality, please refer to our guide: https://getchamp.net/guides/installation/#exporting-your-data

    2. Custom User Avatars

By default, user avatars are pulled from Gravatar. This is still the default. But now, your users can override this avatar by uploading a custom avatar in the preference section of your forum. If a custom avatar is uploaded and the user chooses to display his or her avatar, then the custom avatar will be shown.

How to format posts

Champ uses Markdown for formatting text in posts. Certain markup tags (eg. H1) are forbidden to ensure that pages remain semantically compliant. Other tags are automatically sanitized to ensure all content is secure.

  • Emphasis, aka italics, with *asterisks* or _underscores_.
  • Strong emphasis, aka bold, with **asterisks** or __underscores__.
  • Combined emphasis with **asterisks and _underscores_**.
  • Strikethrough uses two tildes. ~~Scratch this.~~
  • Links are added automatically, but can be formatted like so: [My link](https://mylink.com)

For more information, take a look at the Markdown Cheatsheet.
