  • I am trying to get Email Notifications set up for my forum and am running into a dead end I can't figure out. Any help much appreciated. Here is what I've done:
    1) Added my SMTP info into the Champ settings. No problems here. I'm using Gmail and have the settings correct.
    2) I click the button to send a test email and then I get a notification from Google saying they blocked a sign-in attempt by a suspicious app.
    3) I go into my Google Admin account and head to Security > API Permissions > Trusted and click to add a trusted app.
    4) Google then asks me for an OAuth 2 Client ID

Has anyone successfully set up Champ email notifications with Gmail?

  • @chris It's Simon here -- the developer. Let me email you some additional instructions. Setting up Gmail is a bit tricky because Google requires you to generate app-specific passwords.

You should get an email from me shortly.

How to format posts

Champ uses Markdown for formatting text in posts. Certain markup tags (eg. H1) are forbidden to ensure that pages remain semantically compliant. Other tags are automatically sanitized to ensure all content is secure.

  • Emphasis, aka italics, with *asterisks* or _underscores_.
  • Strong emphasis, aka bold, with **asterisks** or __underscores__.
  • Combined emphasis with **asterisks and _underscores_**.
  • Strikethrough uses two tildes. ~~Scratch this.~~
  • Links are added automatically, but can be formatted like so: [My link](https://mylink.com)
