  • That's really bad. I think what we'll need to do is implement a reCAPTCHA type of system. If a user is posting this manually, then this might help a little bit.

I think the other thing that can be done is to add a time limit setting in the app. Example: User can only create new post / reply to post once every 6 minutes.

A very persistent spammer could always get around this, of course -- but hopefully these will help mitigate.

I'll add these to my monthly TODOs and I'll place them at the top of the list for development.

  • Thank you. If there is a time limit, then there should be some kind of message to the customer explaining and letting them know they can try again soon, in case they thought of something else to add and made another post within the time frame, so they know why they can't post yet. Of course you wouldn't want the message to help the spammers figure out the system either and it might not be likely that a customer post twice within 6 minutes. Something to think about.

  • Hi @Anonymous, the time limit system has been implemented. It's in use on this current forum and you'll be able to see it in action when you click on Post reply. The app will let the user know how many seconds until the next post is allowed.

Let me know if this helps stem the number of spam messages.

How to format posts

Champ uses Markdown for formatting text in posts. Certain markup tags (eg. H1) are forbidden to ensure that pages remain semantically compliant. Other tags are automatically sanitized to ensure all content is secure.

  • Emphasis, aka italics, with *asterisks* or _underscores_.
  • Strong emphasis, aka bold, with **asterisks** or __underscores__.
  • Combined emphasis with **asterisks and _underscores_**.
  • Strikethrough uses two tildes. ~~Scratch this.~~
  • Links are added automatically, but can be formatted like so: [My link](https://mylink.com)
