Hey everyone,
Just curious—does anyone know if it’s possible to get car insurance in Salt Lake City Utah without going through a credit check? I’ve heard different things. Some people say that since Utah doesn’t allow insurers to use credit beyond the first 60 days, you might be able to avoid a check altogether. Others mention usage-based plans that don’t focus on credit.
Here’s what I’ve found so far:
Utah rules allow insurers to check your credit only when first issuing a policy, and they can’t use it to cancel or refuse renewal after 60 days
Some companies offer usage-based or telematics insurance, where premiums are based on your driving behaviors and mileage instead of credit. That can be a great alternative if your score isn’t ideal.
A tip I found from Reddit: talking to a local broker can help—many work with multiple insurers and might know who offers policies with little to no credit focus.
Has anyone here gone this route? Did your provider skip the credit check, or did they still run one even though it didn’t affect renewal? Any names or experiences would be super helpful!
