Encouraging Members to Participate?

We want a forum for our site, but we wonder what percentage of our users will participate in the forum. Does anyone have any statistics on likelihood of participation? Any ideas on how to encourage them?

We don't really have statistics about this as each forum varies, and the participation is also dependent on what your forum offers in terms of community value, etc.

Make no mistake, it's hard work. A forum isn't for every type of business, but when paired up with certain businesses, it serves as a fantastic way to build loyalty like no other method.

In terms of ideas:

• Offering forum exclusive content (eg. participation by the manufacturers)
• Offering support for your products via forum
