Status Update: User notifications for direct messages and @mentions

I wanted to create a separate thread to let users know what's happening with the user notifications to avoid making the Planned Champ Features - Feb 2019 thread overly long.

This feature is actively being developed and should be out by the end of next week. Over the past 1-2 weeks, I've been experimenting with how the notifications should look on the page as well as in the email notifications (if you have that active).

Needless to say, it's a fine line between having TOO many notifications or not getting them enough and missing out on a conversation.

Update - Sunday February 24, 2019:

A new notification section has been added. I've tried to leave this as simple as possible in order to not disturb the existing forum design.

This will appear for logged in users only as unread messages/private messages notification does not apply to anonymous users.

By the end of this week, the email notifications will work for direct messages as well.
